Steeler QB Ben Roethlisberger is the most overrated QB in the league. Being tough doesn’t make you great. Acting like everything hurts and playing through it doesn’t make you tough. If you stand in front of a moving car and get hurt, then limp, that doesn’t make you tough, it makes you stupid.
Speaking of stupid—consider Steeler Coach Mike Tomlin. Two weeks ago, the Steelers played the Ravens needing a win to get to the playoffs. They lost. Why? The Ravens have one of the worst pass defenses in NFL history, surrendering 28 TDs versus getting two interceptions. So the Steelers decide to run the ball about 100 times. The Ravens started Ryan Mallett at QB, who the Ravens signed from Pep Boys the week before. The Steelers didn’t blitz him at all and let him throw for 275 yards and a couple TDs. All while Antwon Blake is still starting at CB for the Steelers and playing big minutes. Pro Football Focus has documented that Blake gave up the most yards to WRs in the history of the NFL by a CB this year … but Tomlin plays him every week because he likes his toughness and run support. That’s nice to know because he also set a record for the most missed tackles by a CB.
The Steelers have lost 13 games to teams with sub .500 records over the last 4 years.
I have figured it out. Mike Tomlin not only looks like the actor Omar Epps, but his career trajectory is similar. Remember when Omar Epps was a hot actor. He was the juice man. He was in a movie with Tupac where he killed Tupac and he was the star of the movie. Tomlin took over the Steelers and won a Super Bowl, went to another. He was all the NFL rage. Then … Omar’s career went to shit and he got killed off on ER … and that was when ER wasn’t even good anymore. Tomlin the last 5 years … hasn’t won a playoff game. He might win a few this year just because the quarterback pool in the AFC playoff field is so weak
Chip Kelly. Gone. Where are all the people now who used to say he was a genius? All the people that backed him on TV … gone. They say Kelly changed everything about the organization. He controlled the media relations, the player selection and development and the food they served in the cafeteria. He wanted complete control. He got complete control. Then when being dogged about roster and personnel decisions he said “ I am not the general manager.” What a punk.
Chuck Pagano’s another punk. He went in and fought for his job after reports he hated and couldn’t get along with the GM. They were blaming each other for failure, but the GM gets a 4 year extension, Pagano signs a 4 year extension and Pagano fires most of his coaching staff. He must’ve rolled over because he wanted his tummy scratched.
Mike McCoy has had a horrible run in San Diego, not one year but terrible both years. I think he fired his staff, the ballboys, the PA announcer and his wife to keep his job. Wow. How the heck does McCoy or any other coach get to keep his job and fire all of his assistants, the same people he hired? If he can’t put together and manage a team, shouldn‘t he be gone?
The Cleveland Browns. I love them because they are incompetent and play in the Steelers division. The Browns hired a guy that was Billy Beane’s right hand man to run their player development and scouting programs. Billy Beane … yeah, the guy that runs the Oakland Athletics MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM.
Sure, people in high level management can change industries and bring in basic principles to be successful across industries, but they need help. They need to step into the new industry and ask the company, what are we looking for at this or that? The Browns, if he asks them what they are looking for in a QB or WR or RB … the Browns don’t have a clue. So the guy gets no help. On top of that, they just fired the coach and GM. So they are completely rebuilding with no football people. I love it. When the owner has an alcoholic, immature QB that they drafted because the owner listened to a bum on the street and the GM was getting text messages from him during the draft … the organization is fundamentally screwed.
Ryan Grigson is still the Colts GM and got a 4 year extension even though they complained the roster sucked and Luck got hurt because of it. Every decision he has made has been garbage, so he got a raise and an extension. Awesome.
Former Bills Coach Doug Marrone is getting interviews. Yeah, the same coach who quit on the Bills and walked away. Got to have that guy. Marrone is proof that one’s stock goes up precisely because absence makes the heart …
The Cowboys are about to completely fall apart. Owner Jerry Jones was recently on television saying he is for signing a “QB with problems if he has talent.” I suppose that means either RGIII or Manziel will be in Dallas next year. Johnny Manziel is a joke. But someone will sign him. Even though he has gone to rehab and still shows up with drinks in more pictures and videos than the Captain Morgan Spiced Rum guy.
Saints Coach Sean Payton is staying. Funny, that means no team was willing to pay the 2nd round pick they wanted plus the millions of dollars of contract buyout they wanted for another team to take him. This isn’t over yet. Stand by for the Saints to reduce their demands. Or a team like the Browns to get desperate.
Playoffs starting. This week:
Steelers vs Bengals. Line is Steelers minus 3. How pissed are you if you are the Bengals and you are a 3 point dog at home to a team coached and QB’d by complete idiots? Well, you can’t be that pissed because your coach is also a moron too (who has never won playoff game) and your QB is too arrogant for someone who has done nothing. Take the Steelers and lay the points. Why? Because the Steelers will win and they can’t win a close game so they will win by 6 or more.
Chiefs laying 3 points to the Texans on the road. Riddle me this. How is Texan QB Brandon Weedin better in Houston than in Dallas? I don’t trust Chief Coach Andy Reid or QB Alex Smith, but I trust them more than a Cleveland Browns reject (Weedin).
Seahawks laying 5 points at Minnesota. Upset special. Take the Vikes to win outright.
Packers minus 1 at Washington. Take the ‘Skins. The Packers aren’t very good and have no chemistry. The ‘Skins aren’t great but can score.
Playoff tidbit. The Broncos are going back to Peyton Manning and he is going to fall apart. I am going to enjoy watching the Steelers go to Denver and win. Osweiler will be called in halfway through the game. To no avail. doesn’t make you great. Acting like everything hurts and playing through it …
