One of the best boarders in the world talks about starting his season at Mammoth
The Sheet caught up with Eastern Sierra native and professional snowboarder John Jackson this week.
Jackson, who is sponsored by Red Bull, is known for his work in the film “The Art of Flight” and his series “The Book of John J” and “Brothers on The Run,” which features his brother Eric Jackson.
He is currently camping out in Mammoth Lakes with his dog, Sensi.
What’s your connection to Mammoth?
I grew up in Crowley. I lived here until I was 25. I just moved to Verdi, Nevada.
I travel a lot, and this is my favorite place on the globe. The mountains are so characteristic. They have so much character.
What are you working on now?
I’ve been in L.A. for the last three months. Right now I’m just filming some GoPro POV stuff on the mountain.
I’m going to Switzerland in the middle of December to film some footage for Red Bull.
Have you been riding at Mammoth this season?
I’m in and out. My plans change often. I’m gonna go home before the storm and come back Friday. This is one of my favorite places to ride and get acclimated to getting beat up all winter.
What do you like to do while you’re in Mammoth?
I love to fish and camp and do anything outdoors. I love it here.
What’s your favorite restaurant in the area?
We had some spendy dinners last week. Had a good dinner at The Mogul. The Sigmunds are family friends.
Had a big crew at Nevado’s too this week. Good crew. Good spendy bill. I love Roberto’s. I love the Breakfast Club. My dad worked in the food industry here. He owned TJ’s in the Aspens.
I love Black Velvet. So many memories.
