Bridgeport Main Street design

The Bridgeport Valley Regional Planning Advisory Committee (RPAC) invites the Bridgeport community to share ideas about the future of Main Street, through a series of interactive workshops to achieve goals such as traffic calming on U.S. 395, enhancing historic character and fostering economic vitality.

On Thursday, Aug. 23, from 7-9 p.m., the opening workshop will cover Community Values and Priorities. On Saturday, Aug. 25, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., a Walkability Audit and Design will be the focus. And a presentation of a Vision Plan will be the topic of the Tuesday, Aug. 28, workshop from 7-9 p.m. A design team including nationally-known walkability expert Dan Burden and the Local Government Commission will visit the community to conduct the workshops that will lead to development of a final plan.

SOS: Coldwater trailhead

Join Friends of the Inyo and Mammoth Lakes Trails and Public Access for this weekend’s Summer of Stewardship event: beautifying the Coldwater Trailhead area of the Mammoth Lakes Basin on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 8:30 a.m. Start with a bagel breakfast  courtesy of Old New York Deli. After work, lunch will be hosted by the Westin Whitebark. Meet at the Duck Pass Trailhead. Parking limited, try to carpool. Dress for trail work with sturdy, close-toed shoes, hat, long pants and a long-sleeve shirt. Gloves and tools provided. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Mono Basin Visitors Center

The  Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association (ESIA) and the Inyo National Forest celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area Visitor Center. During August enjoy a variety of performing arts events each weekend. This week: Friday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. the Rangely Theatre Ensemble presents “‘IN’ Tents: A Conservation Comedy in the Great Outdoors.” (The show will also be performed at the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center at 4:30 p.m. the same day in the Forest Service amphitheater.)

Bishop dog park wags tail

The Bishop Dog Park Inc. is proud to announce the Official Grand Opening of the Bishop Dog Park, the first dog park of its kind in the Eastern Sierra.

The public is invited to the Grand Opening Celebration this Saturday, Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. The Dog Park is located in Bishop’s City Park at the corners of East Yaney, Bruce and Spruce Streets. Hayden Old Timer’s BBQ

The annual Old Timer’s Barbecue gets cooking on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m. at the Hayden Cabin. The old timers share stories of early days in Mammoth, this year’s theme is a century of tourism in the Lakes Basin, including packing and ranching history. Tri-tip, chicken, all the fixin’s, $20 for adults/$6 for school-age kids.

The Hayden Cabin Historical Museum dates back to 1927, and is full of historical artifacts, tools, art, photos, and more, off Old Mammoth Rd. Info/directions: 760.934.6918.
