Let’s eat!

Let’s eat!

During an adjourned meeting on Tuesday evening, members of the Mono County Board of Supervisors and Mono Basin Regional Planning Advisory Committee (RPAC) visited the Lee Vining Community Garden. Ilene Mandelbaum, an member of the RPAC, gave the group a tour of the grounds and provide tasty snacks harvested directly from the garden.

The garden is planted and tended by local community volunteers and school children. Mandelbaum said they’ve even had some help from Pacific Crest Trail hikers stopping in town to use the internet and refuel.

The garden helps provide nutrition education to the schoolchildren and is fertilized with local compost. A greenhouse on the grounds helps keep the growing season going through November.
