Celebrate another year of stewardship at Friends of the Inyo’s Member & Volunteer Party, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. Bring a chair, water, sunscreen and snacks. If spending the night, bring your camping gear. Explorations begin at 10 a.m. at the Obsidian Flat Campground. Evening Celebrations begin at 5 p.m. with a member/volunteer meeting and FOI activity update by Board President James Wilson, followed by FOI-hosted dinner burrito bar with non-alcoholic beverages and potluck dessert. Local bullying movie to debut

The public is invited to the premiere of “Which Team Will You Choose?”on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Edison Theatre, 100 College Parkway, across from Cerro Coso College in Mammoth Lakes.

The 45-minute original movie is produced and directed by Dee DiGioia, who hopes it will “become a memorable and powerful visual tool to empower elementary school children in helping to break the cycle of bullying.” There will be two show times: 4-5 and 5-6 p.m.

“There is no better education than to teach children to be kind, have compassion and do no harm. It is the responsibility of every adult to ensure that every child learns these qualities,” she said. The movie inspired by Helen Keller’s quote, “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.”

The movie was not given permission to be shown at Mammoth Elementary School. Alabama Hills spirit day

The Alabama Hills Film Festival and the Bureau of Land Management’s Bishop Field Office will sponsor a cleanup of the Alabama Hills on Saturday, Sept. 29, and coincides with National Public Lands Day. The event will prepare the area for the Lone Pine Film Festival on Oct. 5-7.

Participants should meet at 8 a.m. at the Lone Pine McDonalds for a volunteer orientation breakfast courtesy of McDonalds or at Movie Road and Whitney Portal Road at 9 a.m. Please bring gloves, hat and sunscreen. BLM will provide tools and trash bags. Refreshments will be provided. National Public Lands Day is the largest annual coast-to-coast, single-day volunteer restoration effort for America’s public lands. The purpose of this event is to improve the recreational facilities, preserve the biological and heritage resources, and foster public involvement in the stewardship of public lands.

Mono Inn “Dine for a Cause”

The Historic Mono Inn and Wild Iris invite you to “Dine for a Cause” on Friday, Sept. 28. The Mono Inn, located on U.S. 395 just north of Lee Vining, will serve an “exceptional food & wine experience,” and 20% of all dinner receipts will go to support Wild Iris Family Counseling and Crisis Center. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

Flu clinics in Mono County

The Mono County Health Department is holding community flu clinics throughout the county. In addition, most pharmacies and health care providers also have flu vaccine available.

Pabanamanina “Big Gathering”

The public is invited to join in this year’s Indian Day Parade and Pow Wow, Sept. 28-30, at the Paiute Palace RV Park on U.S. 395 in Bishop. The Parade rolls out at 10 a.m. from the RV lot, down Pa Ha Lane, to Diaz and ends at the Barlow Gym, with family activities and a barbecue to follow there.

Pow Wow events and Hand Games Tournaments will happen all weekend. There will be food vendors, and arts & crafts. Bring a folding chair with you. Admission is free.
