Getting into the trail work groove

Trail work kicks off in just a little over one week (Photo courtesy FOI and MLTPA)

Saturday, June 5 is National Trails Day and Friends of the Inyo is celebrating with a day of volunteer trail work at Gull Lake. Help improve the Gull Lake Trail and enjoy delicious food courtesy of the June Lake Women’s Club. All volunteers are entered to win a raffle with fabulous prizes, including a 2011 June Mountain season pass!

Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the June Lake Community Center for morning snacks and orientation. Then head out for trail work followed by lunch.

All trail-loving volunteers are invited. Please wear work attire, including long pants, sturdy shoes and a long-sleeve shirt. A hat and sunscreen are recommended.

And if you feel like partying the night before, stop by Friends of the Inyo’s and MLTPA’s Summer of Stewardship Kickoff Party at Mammoth Brewing Company at 94 Berner Street, between 5 and 7 p.m.

In its second year, the Summer of Stewardship, or SOS, is a partnership with FOI, MLTPA and the Inyo National Forest to help people give back to the places they love to play. So stop by the party and enjoy beverages and snacks while learning about summer volunteer opportunities, from lake cleanups to trail work days and steward vacations. All volunteers past, present and future are invited.
