On Sept. 7, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Mono County Sheriff’s Department received information from the FBI that a person wanted for bank robbery in the San Jose, Calif. area may be camping near Bridgeport. At approximately 9:20 p.m., a Mono County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling the area around Buckeye Campground in Bridgeport, where he located the bank robbery suspect’s vehicle. John Robert Alexander, age 56, of Auburn, Calif., was taken into custody without incident on an arrest warrant for possibly being involved in nine bank robberies. The FBI has coined Alexander as “the Posse Box bandit.” He is currently in custody at the Mono County Jail. –Mono County Sheriff’s Dept.
