The Mammoth Unified School District Board of Education announced on Tuesday this week that it has appointed Gabe Solorio as the new Mammoth High School principal. Solorio has been serving as Mammoth Middle School Principal for the past four years. Prior to that he was an Assistant Principal at Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria, as well as a teacher at Templeton High School in Templeton, both in California.
In a statement to the media, the Board said that the selection was made “after a careful review of Mr. Solorio’s performance as Middle School principal and his prior experience as a high school administrator,” adding its collective assessment that Solorio “could provide the leadership necessary for the high school.”
The statement went on to praise Solorio, saying he “has demonstrated a very professional and positive relationship with the staff, students and parents at Mammoth Middle School … and earned the trust of the entire Mammoth Unified staff and the community of Mammoth Lakes. These positive relationships have helped to build morale and create a positive educational learning environment for all students.”
Solorio and current high school principal Mike Agnitch have worked together successfully in the past on many district programs, and will join forces once again in preparing for the transition of leadership within Mammoth High School. Agnitch is set to retire at the end of the school year. Solorio, meanwhile, said he plans to continue as MMS principal for the remainder of this school year, effectively taking over at MHS starting sometime in June. –Sheet Staff/Press Release
