Two community newbies both hail from Pasadena

Mammoth’s two newest members to the community have something in common: they are both from Pasadena, and yes, they know each other. At a welcome party/meet and greet for the new Mammoth Unified School District Superintendent, Rich Boccia, he stated that he knew Mammoth’s new Interim Police Chief, Dan Watson quite well and had recently been building houses in Mexico with him.

How’s that for a small world?

Boccia is a native New Yorker but has spent his time in Southern California for the past 25 years with his wife, Diane and their two daughters. He comes to MUSD after working for Pasadena Unified School District.

On Thursday night the MUSD Board unanimously approved an employment contract with Boccia.

Boccia claimed he was very excited to be in Mammoth. “I’m the new guy in town so I ask you all to be patient with my transition process,” he said to the group of approximately 30 in the room. “I believe the collective genius of the organization is what makes the school district work,” he added.

Shortly after the business half of the event was done, Boccia made the group sing Happy Birthday to him, because not only was June 10 the day of the meet and greet, it was also the new Supes’ birthday.

Cake and cupcakes were provided by the Mammoth High School Culinary Arts Class and gifts of Husky attire were given to Boccia.
