According to a press release from the Town of Mammoth Lakes, Town Attorney Peter Tracy announced on Thursday, July 1 that he intends to resign from his position at the end of December. Tracy serves as Town Attorney for the Town of Mammoth Lakes and City Attorney for the City of Bishop. He plans to continue to work for the City of Bishop after his responsibilities conclude with the Town of Mammoth Lakes.
Tracy’s tenure with the Town began in 1985 and has extended for 23 years. During that time he has worked for 22 council members. Tracy explained that his decision to leave was made for personal reasons. “I love the Town of Mammoth Lakes, and I love the people who work for the Town. I will sorely miss the Town and the people.”
Town Manager Rob Clark commented “Peter has been one of my closest advisers. He always understood the practical concerns of the Town and its Town Council, and was always able to help the Council meet the letter and spirit of the law while still achieving the people’s business.”
Clark said in the press release that later in the summer the Town Council will be provided with options for replacing Tracy. Normally this is done through an open recruitment or by issuing a request for proposals for a contract Town Attorney. It is important that the process be open and transparent and that the Town Council be given the opportunity to select the best possible candidate or firm to represent Mammoth Lakes.
