It was a fitting birthday present for Jorge “Coco” Galvan last Friday night as the 160-pound Senior punched in a 42-yard winning field goal with 45 seconds left in the game, to lift the 2-1 Mammoth Huskies past the Calvary Murrieta Warriors with a final score of 10-7.

The Huskies scored zero offensive touchdowns, but did post a TD courtesy of 5’6″ Junior cornerback Eli Martin, who reached the end zone via an interception with 2:43 left to play, tying the game up at 7-7. Galvan’s 42-yard kick may not be a record in high school football, but it’s all the more impressive when you consider that the average length of a field goal kick in the National Football League is 45 yards!

The Mammoth Huskies travel to Bishop to face the Broncos this Friday (Oct. 1) in a non-conference match up. The Broncos (3-0),  are coming off a 24-21 victory over the Rim of The World Fighting Scots (Lake Arrowhead, Calif.).
