New water tender for Swall Meadows

Love me tender

The new #3982 Water Tender is now at home in the Wheeler Crest Fire Protection District in Swall Meadows. The Fire Department held a barbecue for 65 community members at the Fire Station on Oct. 2 to celebrate, enjoy food and drink, and view the new addition to the Fire Department.

The vehicle’s initial funding came from a grant from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), but this was only a little more than half of what was needed. Other grants from State Farm Insurance and the National Fire Fighters Foundation, and the rallying of the Fire Department and the community brought the total across the finish line. Additional donors included the Mono County Fire Chiefs Association, Sky Meadow Ranch, Steve and Nora Barker, Michael and Judy Bornfeld, Mike and Donalda Day, Anthony and Elena Fortuna, Gary and Julie Wright, Al Carson and huge efforts from the Wheeler Crest Fire crew.

More than half of the Swall Meadows community does not have fire hydrants, so the new tender will be a key source of water in an emergency. All licensed drivers in the Department can pilot the state-of-the-art vehicle, which significantly increases the safety of Swall Meadows and surrounding communities. –Press Release
