November 2 marks the 90th birthday of long-time resident and volunteer, Ellie Randol. To help her celebrate and to recognize this momentous occasion, the Mammoth Lakes Library and Friends of the library have declared Nov. 2, 2010, as “Ellie Randol Day” at the library.
Ellie has done so much for the library over the years. She has headed three building campaigns – two to expand and improve the old library on Forest Trail and, most recently, the campaign that has given us our new and wonderful library. She has been president of the Mammoth Lakes Friends of the Library numerous times as well as holding other offices. She was quite active in the Mono County Friends of the Library for many years. She also helped in the creation of the library’s used book store, the Book Chalet. In her spare time she works all year long sorting books for the Memorial Day and Labor Day Used Book sales.
To recognize all that she has done, a room was named in her honor in the new library – the “Ellie Randol Reading Room.” Many use this room regularly but don’t know the amazing woman behind it. So stop by the library on Nov. 2, and meet Ellie. There will be a reception from 3-6 p.m. where Ellie will cut her 90th birthday cake! In addition, the library will be serving cookies all day long and handing out small mementos to commemorate the occasion. –Press Release
