Update: The Inyo County Coroner’s Office  has released the name of the victim of the crash.

A slight veer seems to have caused Rafael Contreras, a 20-year-old male driver from Long Beach, Calif. to lose control of his vehicle last Saturday, Nov. 6. The results were fatal.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., Contreras was driving his 1994 Honda in the number one southbound lane on U.S. 395, south of Mill Creek Road. He allowed his vehicle to move to the left, onto the left shoulder. As he turned the Honda to the right, back toward the roadway, he lost control of the vehicle. The Honda traveled across both lanes of southbound U.S. 395 and onto the west shoulder, according to the CHP report.

The Honda then traveled down a slight embankment on the west shoulder and struck a tree. Contreras sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. –Bishop CHP
