Mission: Nurtition
The Mammoth Lakes Weight Loss Challenge is on a mission: nutrition! The goal: help the community lose weight, improve health, increase energy, improve physical fitness level and make lifestyle changes. The class costs $39, of which $25 goes into the winner’s pot and we donate $10 to a Fit Kids, a non-profit focused on preventing childhood obesity, www.gofitkids.org.
Participants weigh in each week (for a total of 12 weeks), and at the end of the course, the top 3 people who lose the highest percentage of their weight win the prize money! Learn about protein, metabolism, grocery shopping, fats, carbs and eating out.
The current challenge in Mammoth Lakes started Thursday Feb 10, but Kelly is still taking challengers for the next few weeks. Sessions start at 5:30 p.m. The class runs for 12 weeks total. Dog adoption day
Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue wil have another of their very successful monthly adoption days on Sunday, Feb. 13, from noon-2:30 p.m. in front of the Bishop Kmart/Vons. As always there will be an assortment of big dogs, little dogs and possibly some puppies available for adoption.Bring some furry-faced love into your home for Valentine’s Day! Cowboys and boarders
What do Cowboys and Snowboarders have in common? For the answer to this and other cowboy questions, drop by the fundraiser at Z-Bar Ranch, located at 4 Alpine Circle, in the old Gomez’s A-Frame, on Sunday, Feb. 20. Z-Bar will have raffle prizes and swag to give away. Courtney says that 20% of sales will help send Mammoth Snowboard & Freeride teams to Nationals & Summer Camp.
Free AARP tax aide
The AARP Tax-Aide Foundation, in association with the Mammoth Lakes Library and Cerro Coso Community College, offers free tax help, preparation, and e-filing. The program assists low and middle-income taxpayers.
The service is being provided in the Mammoth Lakes Library on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-5 p.m. throughout tax season, as of Feb. 2. Spanish speaking volunteers are available. Call 760.934.5674 or e-mail suestavlo@yahoo.com for more info or to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.
