Lee Vining firewood sale
The Inyo National Forest is announcing the opening of a new personal use fuelwood cutting area in Lee Vining Canyon, on the south side of Lee Vining Creek in an area previously burned during the Azusa Fire. Access is via road 1N15, approximately ¼ mile east of the Lee Vining Ranger Station on Hwy 120 West.
A valid 2011 personal use fuelwood permit is required and permit holders may only collect dead and down material. Maps are available where permits are purchased, and the area will be closed when the Forest Service has determined sufficient firewood has been removed to reduce hazardous fuel conditions.
Fuelwood permits are $14 per cord with a two cord minimum purchase, and can be purchased at local Forest Service Ranger Stations and Visitor Centers. The Inyo National Forest will institute shut down days (for chainsaw use) based upon daily Project Activity Levels.
Fuelwood permits may be obtained at the following locations: Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center in Lee Vining 760.647.3044, Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center 760.924.5500, White Mountain Ranger Station in Bishop 760.873.2500, InterAgency Visitor Center in Lone Pine 760.876.6222.
