If you’re an aficionado of great music, chili, killer ribs and a smattering of lovely abs, then VillageFest (at the Village at Mammoth) is where you’ve gotta be this weekend!
Mammoth’s annual VillageFest is “California’s Highest Rib & Chili Cook Off Competition.” The event also features local and out-of-area musicians, loads of outdoor fun, local beer and admission is FREE, making for a great community event that everyone can take part in.
VillageFest, the brainchild of event promoters Cathleen Calderon and Mike Hoover, is now in its 8th year. Each and every year VillageFest has proven to be one of the year’s best events and the promoters promise to step it up another notch in 2011.
New this year, VillageFest starts at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 29 with the Annual Chili Cook Off and concert featuring one of Mammoth’s top out of town groups and local favorite Pink Froyd (A PInk Floyd tribute band).
Festivities begin at noon on Saturday, July 30 with the Annual Rib Cook-Off and a day chock full of music, drink, camaraderie and fun, leading up to the evening finale featuring BeatleMajesty live in concert.
BeatleMajesty is billed as “much more than a tribute band” and features three members of the Broadway cast of “Beatlemania.”
VillageFest has proven over the years to be one event that really cares about our locals and visitors. Folks come from all around California and the Western U.S. to enjoy VillageFest. The promoters have been very successful in making contributions from the event each year to Mammoth’s local non-profits such as: Stand By Me Mentoring, Mono Council for the Arts, Eastside K9, Volcom Brothers Skate Park, Mammoth Lakes Foundation & GEO to name a few.
Cathleen and Mike work throughout the year garnering support for the event through sponsorships. A couple of this year’s returning sponsors include The Neighborhood Company and Mammoth Brewing Co. New this year, VillageFest welcomes its newest sponsor “The Mammoth Lakes Board of Realtors.”
