Brett Walters, his wife Margie and their son, Brandon.
I know folks like to complain about the DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles). Personally, I’ve had decent luck with the Bishop office, but … for those requiring DMV services, a trip to the DMV still entails a lengthy commute for Mono County denizens for what usually amounts to a small bit of paperwork.
Enter Mammoth Vehicle Registration Services.
Brett Walters and his wife, Margie will open what amounts to a contract business providing registration services for the DMV this Tuesday, Aug. 9, in The Plaza on Old Mammoth Road just down from the Minaret Mall.
What they can do for you: Registration renewals, title/ownership transfers, duplicate titles, license plates, stickers. Plus they can handle all manner of vehicles, from private cars to RVs, motocycles, boats and commercial vehicles.
What they can also do for you: Provide service in either English or Spanish, as Brett and Margie are fluent in both.
What they can’t do: Driver’s licenses.
What they can’t do (yet, at least): Off-road vehicles and out-of-state transfers into California.
The Walters’ met in Margie’s home country of Colombia several years ago while Brett was traveling. After a long-distance courtship, they married in 2007 and now have an 11-month old son (Brandon).
Both are excited by what they feel is an excellent opportunity to serve their neighbors. And they’re betting the standard service fee of just $29 (over and above standard DMV charges) will convince Mono County residents to save the time and expense of driving the extra miles to Bishop (the closest DMV office for your average Bridgeport resident).
*MVR’s fee is a bit more for title work.
As an added bonus, Brett’s insurance agency is located within the same offices so you can insure and then register a vehicle in one felled swoop.
Mammoth Vehicle Registration will be open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
