MHS volleyball serves up fun

Mammoth High School hosts the 2011 Mammoth Volleyball Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10. Play begins Friday at 3 p.m., and includes schools from the Western Sierra, Nevada and points south of our area. MHS team sponsors include Mammoth Noon Rotary, Roxanne Tallman, Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Mammoth Women’s Club, Mammoth Lakes Lions Club, Summit Physical Therapy, and Side Door Café.

And on Wednesday, Sept. 14, support a team fundraiser by dining at the Good Life Café during breakfast, lunch and dinner. A portion of the proceeds will support the girls’ travel expenses.

Fishin’ Mission fundraiser

The Fishin’ Mission Foundation presents: “Western Night Barbecue, Country Western Concert & Comedy,” on Sept. 3 at the Bridgeport Barns and Terrace. Billy And Sue Ruiz of Cowboy Flavor will cook up Ribs, Sirloin Roast all the fixings. Relax with a country western songs & comedy from Kip Attaway. (recommended for mature audiences only.)

A No-Host bar will be manned by the Bridgeport Gun Club. Merchandise raffles of terrific products from numerous sponsors. Net proceeds will benefit the Bridgeport Fish Enhancement Foundation (BFEF). Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and entertainment at 8:30 p.m. Tix: $40, available at Ken’s Sporting Goods on Main Street in Bridgeport, and at www.fishin-mission-foundation.org.

Bridgeport “stampede” race

Be part of the Inaugural Bridgeport 10k/5k Stampede Race, which stomps out of the starting gaet at the Bridgeport Softball Fields on Founder’s Day weekend in Bridgeport this Labor Day weekend on Sunday, Sept. 4. Signup and registration at 8 a.m. Course runs through a ranch (hence the Stampede part), then up to the Travertine Hot Springs, into a dry river creek bed, then over a challenging hill to the finish line at the Bridgeport Courthouse.

Mammoth, Bishop, arts fests

Labor Day Weekend Arts & Crafts Show at Bishop City Park offers something for everyone! Browse the many booths featuring handcrafted items and tasty treats. Open Friday, Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Monday until 1 p.m. Free admission and parking. More info: contact inyo.org.

And Mono Council for the Arts presents the 42nd Annual LABOR DAY FESTIVAL of the ARTS to be held on Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-5, at Sam’s Wood Site in Mammoth Lake. The Eastern Sierra’s premiere Fine Arts Festival features the work of more than 100 artists.

Enjoy 3 bands (Berel Alexander Ensemble, Los Reeliz and Bishop-based Idle Hands Bluegrass Band), food court wine and cocktails, and Mammoth Brewing Company products! The FREE event is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, and closes at 5 p.m. on Monday. Info: www.MonoArts.org or call 760.937.2942.

Summer of Stewardship

Join FOI and MLTPA for Summer of Stewardship trails maintenance work at Convict Lake on Sunday, Sept. 11. The morning of volunteering includes tasks for people of all ages and abilities, from trail maintenance to trash cleanup, and lasts from about 8:30 a.m. to approx. 1 p.m. Directions to Inyo Craters: Mammoth … follow signs from Mammoth Scenic Loop Road.
