Book signing at Footloose
Thursday, Sept. 22 from 4-7 p.m. Come check out the new Road Biking in the Sierra Nevada guide book by locals Jim Barnes and Nate Greenberg. It’s your chance to meet the authors, get a signed copy of the book and ask them about their favorite rides in the area.
Night Sky Party in Independence
The public is invited to a Night Sky Party at the Historic Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery in Independence on Friday, Sept. 23, which will feature star gazing using the Eastern California Museum’s Celestron C-8 power telescope (it’s a big one). The star gazing will start at 8 p.m., but people are encouraged to come early and tour the hatchery or bring a picnic dinner to enjoy on the grounds. Star fans can bring their own telescopes, binoculars, and chairs and flashlights. Viewing will feature several planets, random nebulas, maybe a supernova, and the fall equinox. The Night Sky show will begin at about 8 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery and the Friends of the Eastern California Museum. For more information, call 760-878-0258.
