The Inyo National Forest will be hosting a public fieldtrip on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m., to visit site locations and discuss plans for the development of three motorized staging areas for winter OSV (over-snow vehicle) and summer OHV (off-highway vehicle) use. The Forest Service received grants from the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Division to plan, design, and develop motorized staging areas and facilities in an effort to reduce congestion at existing staging sites, improve access to motorized opportunities, and resolve winter staging access issues in the Shady Rest area.
The three areas being given consideration for staging area development include the Shady Rest Area north of the Shady Rest Park along Sawmill Cutoff Road (Road 3S08), the entrance to Inyo Craters (Road 3S30) off of the Scenic Loop, and the intersection of the “B” snowmobile trail (Road 3S24) and the Scenic Loop.
Interested parties should meet at Shady Rest Park across from the picnic pavilion. At 3 p.m., the Forest Service will provide an overview of the projects and will then carpool and caravan to the three project areas, returning to Shady Rest Park by 5 p.m.
