Post Office beautification
Join Elizabeth Tenney at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, for a little Post Office beautification in Mammoth.
Needed are PO Park West community garden volunteers to pull alfalfa weeds (the alfalfa comes from erosion control straw tubes around town) throughout the summer, and 10-15 minutes of occasional weed-pulling by a dozen or more regulars would keep the alfalfa under control and the flowers thriving.
Money to buy more perennial plants as well as wildflower seed, fertilizer and topper, which are tax-deductible donations, can be made to Mammoth Community Foundation with “Post Office Beautification Fund” in the subject line. Send c/o Elizabeth Tenney, POB 2428, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546.

Post Office food drive
This year will be the 20th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the nation, held this Saturday, May 12. The National Rural Letter Carriers Association and the U.S. Postal Service will join the NALC, along with the Campbell Soup Company, Feeding America, Valpak, AFL-CIO, Uncle Bob’s Self Storage, AARP and United Way of America to deliver more than 70 million pounds of food nationwide.
In Mammoth, Postmaster James Epperly said the PO will have equipment set up in the back parking lot to receive non-perishables and canned goods, which will then be distributed to local charities in the community.
Bristlecone art competition
The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association in conjunction with the Inyo National Forest will conduct an art competition as part of the Grand Opening Celebration for new Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center, scheduled for Sept. 1. The competition is dedicated to the memory of Jeffrey Scott, renowned Eastern Sierra watercolor artist and Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest supporter.
Artists and photographers, send an email to bristleconeart@gmail.com to receive information and an entry form with more about the competition and the $750 award for the winning image. Competition will be open to both amateurs and professionals now through June 30.

Challenge the status quo
“Challenge the Status Quo” during this Personal Growth Seminar presented by IMACA, Mono County Childcare Council and First 5 Mono County. Library gallery wall
This past March and April, oil painter Beth Summers had her “Spring Fling” collection adorning the Gallery walls of the Ellie Randol Reading Room in the Mammoth Library: some works can be viewed on the Library’s stairwell landing.
As of May 4, the Ellie Randol Room plays host to Eastern Sierra Pleine Aire artists and their watercolor works that will be on exhibit through June.
A percentage of of any purchases goes to to support Library projects.
Library hours are Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Closed Sundays.
Take me to the river … church
The River Church in Bishop will host a FREE regional event May 18-20 with dynamic speaker Steve Backlund.
