American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles will be coming to Mono County to provide training to anyone interested in becoming a Red Cross Emergency Shelter Volunteer.

Mono County has identified 14 locations across the entire county to open as Emergency Shelters in the event of a disaster. There is a limited list of volunteers to call upon to work these shelters and more community members to assist in the opening and running of shelters are needed.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a certified Red Cross Volunteer, please contact Marlo Preis to RSVP for this training by Nov. 26.

There is a great need for volunteers in: Benton, Chalfant, Lee Vining, June Lake, Bridgeport and Walker/Coleville. If you live in these areas or anywhere in Mono County and want to help, please sign up for the training.

After the training, you will receive an American Red Cross Shelter Volunteer card and, if you like, you can also be placed on their list of volunteers to help out nationwide.

The training takes place Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the  Sierra Center Mall, 452 Old Mammoth Road, Mammoth Lakes on the third floor, Social Services Conference Room.
