At approximately 8 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 31, Mono County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a call of an unresponsive male, who had possibly committed suicide, in the parking lot of the Mono Basin Visitor’s Center in Lee Vining.

Mono County Sheriff’s Deputies, Lee Vining Fire Department, and the Mono County Paramedics responded to the Mono Basin Visitor’s Center. They located the man in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to his chest. The man was taken via ambulance to the medical clinic in Bridgeport and then transported via Careflight to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nev. for treatment.

The circumstances of this incident are currently under investigation, but it appears this was a suicide attempt by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. –MCSD
