Obituary: Edward L. Bouska, 1943-2013
Forty-five year Mammoth Lakes resident, Edward Bouska, passed away at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage CA on June 21, 2013 of pancreatic cancer. Ed, as his friends knew him, was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Dec. 24, 1943 to Carole and William Bouska. During his formative years he lived several places including Iowa, Las Vegas and Casper, Wyom., which he considered to be his home town. He graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper and a few years after graduation, in the mid-sixties, he move to Costa Mesa, Calif. where his family resided. He first worked at Fairview Hospital in Costa Mesa and later he went into the banking industry where his first job was at Bank of America.
While living in the Ala Moana Apartments in Costa Mesa, which was a young, fun person’s type place, Ed met his future wife, Sue Thompson of Mammoth Lakes, Calif. They married on Sept. 24, 1966. In May of 1968, Ed and Sue moved to Mammoth where Sue was raised. Shortly after moving to Mammoth, Ed secured a job at Inyo-Mono National Bank where he worked for many years. During that same period of time, Ed also latched on as a reserve for the Mammoth Lakes Volunteer Fire Department,and was a reserve Deputy for the Mono County Sheriff’s Department, and obtained his private pilot’s license.
Throughout his life Ed really enjoyed sharing stories of the adventures he had while he was on the Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department and performing acrobatic stunts in airplanes. Ed also took much pride in his more than 35-year membership to the Bodie chapter 64 of E. Clampis Vitus a.k.a. “Clampers”, he always felt the sense of brotherhood amongst E.C.V. members was “satisfactory”, and so recorded.”
Later Ed gave up his work in banking and started his own computer business and then spent the rest of his working career as the CFO for Harshbarger Construction Company which later became Rudolph Construction.
After retiring Ed and Sue were lucky enough to be able to spend the winter months in Palm Desert and summers in Mammoth Lakes, which to them was the best of both worlds!! Ed most of all enjoyed playing golf, but shortly after his diagnosis he started a “bucket list” which included purchasing a couple of quad ATV’s. He had many pleasurable rides on them with his friends and family over the last 10 months, especially at the Glamis sand dunes.
Ed is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue; parents, Carole and Bill; daughter, Keri; son, Kevin; grandchildren, Kelsey, Aaron, Stephanie, Evan and Kate; brother, Bill; sisters, Vicki, Kathryn, and Marianne and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Ed on July 20, 2013 at Pokonobe Lodge on Lake Mary from 2-4 p.m.
