Dancing with the Docs 2013

This Saturday, Sept. 21, Mammoth Hospital presents the second annual Dancing with the Docs at Canyon Lodge.
The dance competition and gala event features six Mammoth Hospital doctors paired with local celebrities. Hosted by the Healthcare Trust of Mammoth Lakes, the event will raise awareness and money for hospital initiatives.
Following is a peek at five of the six teams competing this year. Read about the sixth team, “Drama Mamas,” on by clicking here.
Team “High Mountain Kicks”
Team “High Mountain Hicks,” is made up of Dr. Marty Kim, local O.B.G.Y.N. and baby-delivering master of Mammoth Lakes, and Jason Crockett, a familiar face in the acting scene around the area. Crockett is also the Creative Director of the Eastern Sierra Film Project. This duo will be dancing their boots off to a “Country Swing” number. Jason has been traveling from Bishop once a week since the beginning of July, working with Marty to get those boot-scooting legs ready. An all-around athlete paired with a talented creative performer. Look out competition! Choreographed by Pamela Stayden.
Team “Tango”
Dr. Jennie Walker and Matty Whitmore are Team Tango. Jennie is a doctor in the emergency room, plus a wife and mother of two. She used to be a dancer and enjoys hiking and is into cross-fit. She also danced last year with Dave Schacht. Matty Whitmore is a personal trainer and yoga instructor. He is an avid surfer and spends a lot of his time with his dog. Matty was born and raised in Mammoth but now resides in Pacific Palisades. He was also a finalist on Survivor: Africa. “We have only had 12 hours of total practice,” Walker said. The team will be doing the Tango to a arrangement from “The Gotan Project.” Choreographer is Leann Alduenda.
Team “Jive Turkeys”
The “Jive Turkeys,” high school friends Karly Dawson and Chris Benchetler, are paired up to an Elvis number. Benchetler is a professional skier and part owner of Mimi’s Cookie Bar. Dawson is a Physician Assistant, and a participant in this year’s Mammoth Mud Run with Team Jamaica. Her costume has been handmade by her aunt. While enjoying the dancing, Benchetler admitted he’d rather be climbing. The team has only practiced for a total of a week, but are both having a great time and are looking forward to Saturday. Choreographed by Sarah Lawrence.
Team “Break A Leg”
Dr. Kim Escudero and Gabe Taylor are team “Break A Leg.” Taylor is a professional snowboarder and a terror to the golf course. Escudero is a Pediatrician at Mammoth Hospital, and mom of three. She is a cross country skier and will be running her first marathon Oct. 6. They have been practicing since early June and lovingly refer to Choreographer Karrie McFadden as Drill Sargent or G.I. Jane.
Team “Money”
Team “Money” is Dr. Jason Bishop and Alison Page. Bishop is a Pediatric Dentist, snowboarder, and bachelor with no dance experience. He has been driving up to Mammoth from San Diego once a month to work at Mammoth Hospital. Page is a real estate agent at Snowcreek and a director with the local Sierra Classic Theatre. She is bridging the gap as choreographer and dancer for their team. Even with an inflamed nerve in her leg, she plans to push through the performance. The team will be doing a Fox Trot to a number by David Lee Roth.
