Turnovers torpedo Huskies

Boron 40-Mammoth 8
Turnovers destroyed the Huskies chances to beat a strong Boron Bobcat team Friday, Oct. 4 in Mammoth. The first half was a back and forth defensive battle with Boron going up by 8 points just seconds before time expired in the second quarter. Despite the first half turnovers, the Huskies were only down by a score at the intermission. The Huskies received the opening second half kick-off and almost immediately turned the ball over to the Bobcats who converted for a TD and added the 2 with the PAT suddenly making the score 16 zip, Boron. The Huskies then covered the on-side kick by Boron giving the Huskies offense a short field to start their second possession of the second half. This time the Huskies were able to hang onto the ball and Mammoth was able to effectively move the ball on the ground during the drive until Steven Orrick slashed over the middle for a 30 yard romp for a score. Lucas Underkoffler connected with Mueller for the 2 point conversion making it Mammoth 8, Boron 16 less than halfway through the 3rd quarter. At that moment it looked as if the Huskies might be able to get over ’em (skiing racing term) and make a run on the Bobcats, however, it wasn’t to be as Boron was able to run-back the ensuing Huskies kick-off for a touchdown that seemed to deflate an unusually resilient Huskies football team. The Huskies continued to have possession issues that finally led to a Boron Bobcats victory.
