Letters to the Editor: Scheduling and teachers

Scheduling is hard

Dear Editor:

I apologize that the date of the Town Council Candidates forum on May 6th, hosted by the Lions Club/Cerro Coso, was scheduled during a time that two of the candidates were unable to attend. Both Shields Richardson and Colin Fernie had long-term prior commitments. Both of those candidates are just as passionate about this campaign as those who were present at the debate. I am sorry if there was an impression created that they were not serious, as both of those gentlemen have been extremely committed to their respective campaigns. Given the chance to schedule the debate again I would have done it at a time when all eight candidates could be present.

Thanks to teachers, and to the people who thanked the teachers, and to the people who thanked the people who thanked …

Dear Editor:

Our Elementary School teachers have one of the toughest jobs in Town. It requires diplomacy, patience, attention to detail, organization, and TLC. Often, their work goes unnoticed or unthanked.

May 5th – 9th was Teacher Appreciation Week, and the Mammoth Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization acknowledged our teachers with a week of meals, home-made treats, gift bags full of gifts, and an evening reception at Bleu Handcrafted Foods.

We would like to thank our generous local businesses that contributed to these gifts with certificates, goodies, or their time and services:  Amy Wild at Hair and Now, Ben & Jerry’s, Black Velvet Coffee, Bleu Handcrafted Foods, Bluebird Imaging, The Booky Joint, Burgers Restaurant, Clocktower Cellar and Petra’s Bistro and Wine Bar, Girl Scouts of Mammoth Lakes, Giovanni’s, Gomez’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, Green Fox Events, InTouch MicroSpa, Michelle Lansiti at Mono Council for the Arts, Mammoth Kayaks, Footloose Sports, Lakanuki, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Mammoth Rock ‘N Bowl, Stellar Brew, Sonja Bush, The Stove, Tonik, Toomey’s Catering, and The Town of Mammoth Lakes.

Also, a big thank you to Elise Howell, Deanna Clark, Lori Schneider, Krissy Sandvigen, Jennifer Holmes, Tammy Nguyen, and Rosanne Lampariello for helping plan the entire week of Teacher Appreciation!

Teachers, of all grades, work hard.  Please don’t forget to thank your child’s teacher for all he/she does.
