Kenneth Charles Butner, 1956-2014
Kenneth Charles Butner of Mammoth Lakes, California was born June 28, 1956 in Corvallis, OR. He died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident near the Klamath River on July 7, 2014. He is survived by his wife Cindy, their daughters Cathy Senior and Sarah Wood, Cathy’s children, Ken’s grandson Luken Senior, granddaughter Summer Senior, all of Mammoth Lakes CA, brother Eric of Bishop CA, sister Nancy of Hanalei HI and parents Myles and Joanne Butner of Cottage Grove OR.
Family and friends treasure his sound council and enjoyed his witty jokes, pranks and poems. Ken left home at age 18, worked at various jobs in Mammoth as a cook, a propane gas technician, and as a cable television technician. He then became a valued member of the Mammoth Lakes Hospital staff for over 19 years where he held positions in Maintenance, Purchasing and eventually as part of the OR staff.
Ken achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and enjoyed motorcycling and bicycling. He loved airplanes and became a licensed pilot. An enthusiastic camper, he traveled widely over the western USA, exploring many off-road desert locations. A favorite destination was California’s Death Valley area, where he climbed more than 30 desert mountain peaks. For adventure, he ran with but avoided contact with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain several years ago.
Ken will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by family and friends, many of whom attended a celebration of life held in Mammoth Lakes on July 13, 2014.
Farewell to a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend; your spirit will live with us all our lives.
The Butner family would like to thank everyone who has kept us in their prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. The cards, flowers, meals and donations have helped immensely. We’ve seen the generous and caring people of Mammoth come together for those in need many times over the years but it is really amazing when you experience such love and support.
Thank you again,
Cindy, Cathy & Sarah
