A shout for the Whisperer
Dear Editor,
After our recent visit to Mammoth Lakes, we felt compelled to write you in order to share our wonderful experiences of the people and place.
Mammoth is a town alive with friendly, warm spirit – we have no doubt this is the case in winter months as well. Amongst the many places we visited and people we met, we felt most fortunate to spend time with and engage in deep and thoughtful conversation with the Bear Whisperer, aka Steve Searles.
Throughout our global travels, this man stands out as one of the most open–minded, genial, deeply thoughtful and intelligent we have met. He is a man who manages to integrate a profound sense of humanity, spirit and soul in an intellectual and articulate manner.
Not only is he a wise old sage, but he offers an unusual ability to heal and care for all those in his company. The work he does with bears is obvious and clear, yet the work he does with people, while less broadcast, we felt was asrevelatory and globally applicable.
We remain astonished and deeply motivated at Steve’s ability to communicate with all living things and his philosophical approach to life, with both bears and with humans. Mammoth has in its grasp a great man, guardian and apostle — we feel greatly blessed to have been to Mammoth and have met him.
