The World Food Championship in Las Vegas took place last week. CJ’s Grill competed in the World Burger championship, one of nine event categories. CJ’s was extended the invitation to participate by virtue of winning the Burger Battle at this past summer’s Mammoth Food and Wine Experience.

CJ’s Carrie Hoeltzel said, “The experience was amazing. The competition took place outside on Fremont Street, and each category had 20-50 chefs competing.

We made two burgers for the first two rounds. Round one was the signature burger. We served the same burger we made at the food and wine event, with homemade red wine vinegar ketchup, white sharp cheddar cheese, riesling sauteed onions, lettuce, tomato, and a port wine reduction. For round two we had to create a red robin burger. We were given a list of ingredients found in their kitchen, and had to make a burger with those limited ingredients.

We made a deep fried bacon burger with a homemade A1 cheese sauce, lettuce and tomato.

The best part: we got to meet, talk to, and learn from chefs from all around the country, learning new ideas. Perfect timing for our new winter menu release.”

CJ’s placed 31st out of 50 entrants.
