Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor ...

Thanks from Swall Meadows

Dearest Eastern Sierra community and beyond:

Words can’t describe how grateful we are to be part of such an amazing community.

February 6th marked an event that turned our life upside down and will leave its scar forever! The Round Fire raged in that evening, incinerating our home and most of our life’s possessions.  We were incredibly fortunate to have rescued our pets and a few treasures.  Periodically, you see this type of event on the 6 o’clock news, but can’t imagine what it’s like to be the ones standing there looking at what used to be your dream home now reduced to a pile of ashes. Over the past couple of weeks we have been struggling to pick up the pieces and bring some balance back to our lives.

The outpouring of support from family, friends, the community, and beyond has been staggering to say the least; from the local pet store wanting to make sure that our pets had all the comforts of home, to the contractors dropping off tools to aid in the cleanup effort, to the thrift stores and then the friends, acquaintances and strangers offering their help for “whatever we might need.” This is just scratching the surface of the list of people that have offered up their help, services and have opened their hearts and their wallets to help our beloved Swall Meadows neighborhood get back on their feet.

The rally for support has not just been limited to the Eastside; there has been an incredible outpouring of support from friends, family and those just wanting to help from our Southern California neighbors and beyond. The donations of gift cards, personal and household items both gently used and new has been overwhelming! We can’t begin to name everyone or business individually, because there has not been a person that we have encountered that hasn’t offered something. I’m concerned that we will never live long enough to repay the good karma that has come our way.

We are so incredibly proud to call the Eastern Sierra HOME!!

THANK YOU to each and every one of you for your offer of unconditional support and help as we make our way down the trail of rebuilding our life in Swall Meadows.
