Staggering development

The abandoned White Stag and Ullr motels on the corner of Main Street and Minaret Road are slated for demolition at long last. iStar Financial, the owner of the buildings, has hired general contractor Tim Flynn to complete the demolition..

Flynn has already applied for the demolition permits and expects work to start within the next 30 days.

The buildings are being removed because they are “a blight right there on the corner,” said Sue Short, property manager for iStar. That blight might become a boon to the Town, however: Mammoth Lakes Town Manager Dan Holler said the White Stag site could become an interim parking solution for the Village.

“We are interested in discussing interim parking options once the site is cleared,” Holler said. He could not provide a cost estimate or term of operation “until we know what the site is.”

But, he added, “We need to address parking issues at the Village, and this is a great way to do that.”
