The Music Society of the Eastern Sierra was founded in 1983 as a non-profit organization set up to support music endeavors in the Eastern Sierra.

Throughout the years, folks like Barbara Campbell, Edith and Walther Buchanan and Suzanne Stokes dedicated many hours of hard work to help promote The Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee, High Sierra Musical Theater, Sierra Summer Festival and Inyo and Mono Councils for the Arts.  The society made annual donations to help with the Broadway Musicals produced by the Mammoth High School Drama Dept.

MUSES members are musicians, parents, local businesses and others who want to see music and music education flourish.

MUSES traditionally helps Mammoth High School Band and Mammoth Middle School Band by purchasing instruments, making instrument repairs and most important, offering scholarships to qualifying high school seniors to pursue their music studies in college.

This year, MUSES will provide one MHS band student a scholarship to the Sacramento Youth Jazz Camp.

Last year, Devin Burgenbauch received the Suzanne Stokes Music Scholarship to help with his tuition at Cal Arts College. Susan was a gifted bass player who staunchly supported music in the Sierra. We would like to continue to honor her memory and love of music by perpetuating this scholarship. In a small town like this, MUSES is one of the few entities that provide financial support to our young musicians and the cultural awareness of music.

Anyone interested in joining the Music Society of the Eastern Sierra or making a tax deductible donation can mail to:  Music Society of the Eastern Sierra, PO Box 185, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546. Please specify if directed to the Suzanne Stokes Memorial Scholarship.

Individual Membership $10, Family $25, Business Sponsor $50, Patron $100, Benefactor $200 or more.
