And from Lunch …
Every week, Ron Casey, formerly of June Lake, now living in Ridgecrest, father of Tim Casey (Mono City), delivers The Sheet from Lancaster, where it’s printed, up to Mammoth. More often than not, Casey then joins me for breakfast at the Breakfast Club.
Ron is a throwback to an era where people knew how to live (a particular favorite story of mine is the one where Ron’s wife returned a Cadillac because the speedometer only went up to 85, so she never knew how fast she was driving) and have fun. They also knew how to work. To wit, I recall a time about five or six years ago when Ron called me one night and said he couldn’t do the delivery that week but for sure, he’d get it done the next week.
Lunch: Ron, is everything okay?
Ron: Well, I had a heart attack last night, but I’m feeling pretty good today. Don’t worry. I’ll see you next week.
Anyway, Ron handed me the following not too long ago.
The World of Wimps and What to do About it
1. Take away all electronic devices
2. Make them read a book
3. Have them write a letter.
4. Have them learn simple math without using fingers and toes
5. Take them fishing
6. Take them hunting (gun or camera)
7. Learn camping
8. Teach them how to order in a real restaurant
9. Teach them how to meet people and introduce themselves
10. Respect flag and country
“We raised 7 kids, none of whom are wimps … The wimp thing started with the hippie generation and got worse. So our kids and their kids need to learn these ten things.”
