HOMICIDE IN MAMMOTH

Omar Sanchez killed by unknown assailant(s)
Omar Jose Hernandez Sanchez was shot and killed outside his home in Mammoth around 2 a.m. on Sunday, October 9.
The Mammoth Lakes Police Department is investigating, the Department of Justice is assisting with processing the crime scene and the Mono County Sheriff-Coroner positively identified the 35-year old and released his name Wednesday, October 12.
According to a press release from the Mammoth Lakes Police, it initially responded to several reports of gunshots at the 200 block of Azimuth Drive. Sanchez lived in the Sierra Holiday Mobile Home Park on Azimuth. Some residents in the vicinity said the shots, 12 to 20, came in rapid succession, sounding as if they came from an automatic or semi-automatic gun.
It is entirely possible that it wasn’t automatic weapon fire and that there was more than one shooter or gun involved.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Sanchez with multiple gunshot wounds. Mono County paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.
