Caught… In Jail

A suspect wanted in connection with an attempted murder in Lone Pine on May 23 was arrested Sunday, June 11 by Inyo County Investigators. Thirty-year-old Bishop resident Jeffrey Barnes was arrested while already in custody at Inyo County Jail. He was being held on home invasion and robbery charges stemming from an separate incident in Lone Pine in March.
Barnes was originally arrested on Tuesday, June 6 following a motorcycle chase with Inyo County Sheriff’s deputies. Barnes was one of four suspects involved in a home invasion and robbery of a Lone Pine residence. The resident was also assaulted.
The suspects include Oscar Alvarado, Emilio Orozco, Barnes and Mario Torres. Alvarado and Orozco were arrested Friday, June 2.
Torres, 29, turned himself into Inyo County Sheriff’s deputies on June 11 and is in custody at Inyo County Jail. He was charged with robbery with enhancements and special allegations. His bail is set at $250,000.
According to a press release from the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, an employer made a request for a welfare check on an individual who did not show up to work in Lone Pine on May 23. Deputies responded to the residence of that individual on Post Street in Lone Pine to find an as yet unidentified male subject the victim of gunshot wounds. The victim had been in critical condition, according to the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, but his condition is currently unknown.
