Not one fight over Legos erupted at Wednesday's vacancy workshop.

Bishop comes together to discuss how to fill all the empty commercial real estate

On Wednesday evening, July 11, the City of Bishop held a workshop to address vacant storefronts in the downtown area. Clouds collected over Bishop and the White Mountains. Business owners, workers, and concerned citizens gathered in the Elks Lodge. They sat at round tables. In the center of each table was a pile of Legos and City of Bishop logo pens. The Legos were never used and their purpose was never explained.

There were no children present. There was a dog.

Mayor Karen Schwartz gave a short introduction. Elaine Kabala, of the Bishop Planning & Economic Development Department, followed with a presentation about the current condition of downtown Bishop, previous government outreach as well as proposed community strategies to solve the vacancy problem and revitalize downtown. Previously, the city held workshops on February 3, 2016, and May 3, 2017.
