THE SNAXX SISTERS

For years, Mammoth residents looking for Mexican snacks like tostilocos, chicharrones, corn cups and aguas frescas had to make the drive to Bishop.

Sisters Kathy and Joanna Medina wanted to change that.

The sisters, both born and raised in Mammoth, opened Frezita Snaxx after spending last summer as weekend pop-up vendors at Village events. 

After hearing repeated requests from customers for a permanent location, they decided to turn the side business into a storefront.

“We kept hearing, ‘When are you guys going to open a shop?’” Kathy said.

The sisters began looking for a location in November, and eventually chose a space in the Mammoth Mall.

The business started as a passion project, with Kathy initially planning to run it herself before inviting Joanna to become a co-owner.

When they opened the storefront, Kathy left her job as a patient access representative at Mammoth Hospital to run Frezita Snaxx full-time, and Joanna continues working in reservations while handling payroll, emails and other administrative responsibilities.

The shop’s menu combines traditional Mexican snacks with viral food trends popularized through social media, like Buldak ramen and Dubai chocolate strawberries.

Kathy, who is 23, keeps an eye on emerging food trends, while Joanna, 31, focuses on keeping the business organized behind the scenes.

“We just want to keep growing and giving Mammoth something new,” Kathy said.

Frezita Snaxx is located at 126 Old Mammoth Road and open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
