When football means nothing

Gotta get to it right away ‘cause it is killing me. The Joe Paterno/Jerry Sandusky/Penn State child molestation scandal has me back to using the F word. I am utterly F’ing disgusted with this whole situation. And I cannot understand some people’s reactions. Here’s why.
1. Anyone saying Paterno is taking too much heat ‘cause he did what he was supposed to do and “reported the situation” is an idiot.
Paterno had an obligation to do more than that. This is someone who sat in parents’ homes and talked about molding young men and teaching them to be better people, etc.
But then he turns a blind eye and allows a grown man to molest young boys? Paterno didn’t do the crime, but allowing it to continue is just as bad. How many more kids got molested within Penn State facilities after he had the chance to make it stop?
2. Anyone saying Paterno should be allowed to finish the season is a fool. What is wrong with you? He has no rights. He had the obligation to turn in his friend and make sure Jerry Sandusky never stepped foot on the Penn State campus again.
But he didn’t. He played Catholic Church. And then the sanctimonious jerk had the nerve to announce Wednesday that he would retire “at the end of the season.” On his terms. I don’t care if he’s 84 years old. He is still the head coach of a major university. Age doesn’t give you rights or a free pass.
3. The University President said he backed his coach and athletic director when the news broke. Did Sandusky rape one of his kids? If so, do you think his reaction might’ve been different?
4. People standing outside Paterno’s house cheering him and offering him support. How can you support him? ‘Cause he won some football games? ANYONE knows I love football, but when it comes to this, FOOTBALL MEANS NOTHING. This is about life, kids, childhood, mental health, future well-being. It is appalling to me, people supporting and cheering Paterno. If I were living anywhere near that campus, I would go to the house and confront these people and punch someone in the mouth.
5. The Police that let Sandusky off after he was investigated in 1998 AND 2002 should be ashamed. The least they could have done is hire that guy from NBC who catches sex predators on camera. How come NBC can catch people and the local police can’t make a case?
6. Mike McQueary or McCreepy or whatever the hell the name is of the Graduate Assistant (now current Assistant Coach) who witnessed the event … you are a coward. You saw a 60-year old man raping a young boy so the first thing you did was … leave the locker room and call your daddy.
So when you see something wrong, your first thought is how to protect yourself and your future coaching career at Penn State?
Then the father of this Graduate Assistant told his son to “leave the building and go tell Paterno what he saw.”
Hmm. I can clearly see where McQueary got his balls from … his miserable father. What kind of coward would witness that s$#t going on and not immediately run in and beat that old pervert half to death? He left that kid in there to take the abuse. He went and called his daddy like a punk. And they both conspired to protect the job and the college. I am amazed that this Graduate Assistant and his father aren’t being skewered by the press. They are terrible, pitiful human beings. What would the father have done if he walked in and saw someone doing that to HIS kid? Would he have walked away?
Update
7. Students rallied and shouted “We Want Joe” after learning Paterno had been fired Wednesday night. They flipped a van and threw rocks at reporters. Wow. Every one of those kids should get visits from their parents. Every one of ‘em should be kicked out of school because they don’t deserve to be there. They think they are taking up a cause but haven’t a clue. If Penn State is an example of what higher education has become, we are all in trouble.
Select Picks
Chargers 23, Raiders 20. Why? ‘Cause you gotta pick somebody. Last week, the Raiders made Denver QB Tim Tebow look like Scott Frost at Nebraska. Meanwhile, Charger QB Philip Rivers threw more picks than Karl Malone. Chargers win because Raider QB Carson Palmer is not averse to throwing the ball to the other team either. And the Raiders are an undisciplined disaster. They had the Broncos on the ropes and started trying to beat them up and bully them and took penalty after penalty. When the hell is an NFL coach going to take a stance by pulling one of these idiots off the field for a stupid penalty and publicly ripping his ass? They make mistake after mistake and the coaches just stand there and watch.
Buccaneers 20, Texans 18. I heard Charles Davis say today that the Texans have the #1 rated defense in the NFL. I don’t put much stock in that. After all, they have played Cleveland, Jacksonville and Tennessee the past 3 weeks.
Steelers 27, Bengals 13. The Bengals have become a trendy pick to become the #1 playoff seed in the AFC. C’mon now. They have a rookie QB in Andy Dalton and they have beaten NO ONE.
Cards 23, Eagles 20. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Eagles self-destruct – almost as much as I enjoyed this spring’s implosion of the Miami Heat. And watching the experts squirm has been hilarious. After the Eagles beat the hapless Cowboys, the Eagles were proclaimed to have a great defense and a great team. Dream Team redux. And then they had to play another game.
And have you seen Head Coach Andy Reid waddling the sidelines? He is so fat now, I swear if he has pubic hair, the friction between those massive thighs may start a brush fire. I’m picking the Cards just because I want to see the train wreck happen in even slower motion. May Card QB Kevin Kolb play the game of his life.
Chiefs 27, Broncos 13. The Broncos are idiots. They should make QB Tim Tebow run a true NFL offense. If they keep running this b.s. option offense, they will beat a couple of bad, poorly disciplined teams (like the Raiders) and lose the number one overall draft pick. and then will be sitting in the same predicament next year with Tebow at QB again.
Bills 27, Cowboys 17. Two teams headed in the same direction … swirling around and around in the bottom of the toilet bowl. Offenses are
about even. The Bills have a serviceable defense. The Cowboys haven’t figured out what defense is yet.
Giants 31, Niners 13. Finally, a team will pound the Niners running game in the box and put pressure on QB Alex Smith to throw the ball.
Patriots 30, Jets 25. Patriots snap their losing skid – without DT Albert Haynesworth, whom they just released. Hmm. EVERYONE said Patriot Coach Bill Belichick and the “Patriot Way” would transform Haynesworth and make him a great player again. If anyone can fix Haynesworth, Yoda Belichickenhead will. And all for just a 5th round draft pick. Moral of the story: You get what you pay for.
The list of Patriot failures is growing by the day. How is that trade for WR Chad Ochocinco working out? The only reason the Pats won’t cut him is because they are trying to protect their reputation. Easy to blame Fat Albert. But to admit also failing with Ochocinco is too much. Ochcocinco was productive until this year. Eight games. Nine catches. 136 yards. Ouch.
I was watching the Raider game last week and I saw something hilarious. Did you see Carson Palmer’s face when the Raiders were committing penalties and throwing that game away? He looked amazed … just like he looked in Cincy. He looked confused throwing the bal … just like he looked in Cincy. Carson Palmer, I’m gonna let you in on something. You are on the same dysfunctional type of team … just a different colored jersey. Hotel Oakland California
Tiger Woods’s former longtime caddy Steve Williams said he wanted to stick it “up that black asshole.” Why is Stevie still mad? Still playing the jilted lover card? Now if that isn’t a racial slur … but do you think the PGA will suspend him? You make a gay slur and you get fined and the media will kill you. But you make that remark and … nothing. Wow.
Andy Murray plays tennis. Wouldn’t know or care if it wasn’t for this story. I guess a couple years ago he withdrew from a tournament ‘cause he hurt his hand…………playing Playstation. That is some funny shit.
But this month, he withdrew from a tournament ‘cause he “pulled a butt muscle while sleeping.”
Now unless he fell asleep because of a rufey and some guy he met at the bar “massaging” his butt muscle, what the hell do you do in your sleep to pull an ass muscle? I have heard of wild sleeping, but … this sounds like Andy Murray got an appearance check, and then checked out early.
NBA Lockout. This is great. I hate the NBA and think the season is too long anyway, so not having to see highlights every day of a giant tattoo run down the court, jack up a 3-point shot, miss, then run the other way and foul someone, all the while yelling at the official about not getting a call, hack the crap out of the other team, then run around the court bitching about getting called for a foul … don’t miss that a bit. I will say this. The players are out of their minds. They’re bitching that they need more than 50% of revenue, like it is their constitutional right. If I were an owner, I would tell them “you can kiss my ass.” You play, I pay. You don’t play, I pay someone else.
Don’t act like every one of those players can find something else to do. What is a giant tattoo going to do … run your financial portfolio? Is he going to be a foreign ambassador with the word THUG tattooed on his neck? Get serious. The players have no leverage.
The owners should start getting together scabs who will play. You don’t think they can? Imagine all the college and high school players in the country who haven’t been able to play basketball and are broke now … and you offer them $100,000 a year to play basketball. You will fill the gyms with tryouts. And the striking players will get nervous and it’ll all be over in a few weeks.
Why do networks pay Late Night talk show hosts big money to be on at 2 a.m.? Who is watching TV that late at night besides stoners and insomniacs? You could put on anything that time of night instead of paying Carson Daly to have a show. You know why people like Conan are so funny in the middle of the night and bomb during regular time slots? ‘Cause people who watch them and talk about how funny they are the next day are HIGH as hell at 2 a.m. and eating those $0.99 burritos from 7/11 and calling that gourmet food, too. Put the same comedians on TV at 10 when everyone is still sober and, oh my, not so funny anymore. Reminds me of that Kenny Chesney song: i went to bed with a 10 at 2 a.m. but woke up with a 2 at 10.
A city in Michigan turned off its streetlights because it couldn’t afford to pay its light bill. If it’s that bad now, imagine how bad it would be if they had an airport to maintain.
Continuing with tough times, I recently bought a lottery ticket and it occurred to me that if I won, i would take the 50% up front payment option instead of the yearly payoff. Why? I couldn’t honestly trust the state to pay me 20 years down the road.
