Musil back in Mono County
On Tuesday, the Mono County Board of Supervisors appointed Bob Musil as County Assessor. He will hold the position until the 2014 election when he will then have the opportunity to run for the position.
Musil is no stranger to the Mono County Assessor’s Office. In 2008, he was basically running the Office in the absence of then-Assessor Jim Lovett.
Lovett was recalled from office but chose retirement before he was officially given the boot. He had battled alcoholism during his time in office, and his work habits had deteriorated over time. Musil served as Assistant Assessor from 2006-2009.
Musil ran for election to the position in 2008, but lost to Jody Henning. Henning resigned from the position in 2012 and Assistant Assessor Aimee Brewster has been running the office as Interim Assessor ever since.
In his time away from the County, Musil was a mining appraiser for the Nevada Department of Taxation.
In a County press release Musil commented, “I can’t wait to get started and look forward to being part of the Mono County Assessor team once again, reconnecting with the staff and serving the people of Mono County.” Musil is qualified as an Advanced Certified Property Tax Appraiser from the California State Board of Equalization. He has also completed the Nevada Real Property Tax Appraiser certification and has a degree from San Jose State University in Political Science. Musil’s first day on the job was Sept. 3. The salary for the position is $108,000 annually.
Also on Tuesday, the Board appointed Rob DeForrest as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Manager and Nathan Reade as the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures. Musil, DeForrest and Reade join two other recent Board appointments — Nate Greenberg as the Information Technology (IT) Director and William “Bill” Van Lente as the Director of Human Resources/Risk Management.
