Winning the first game is always good, it sets the tone for the season.
The Huskies looked better the first game of the 2013 season against Rosamond than many previous Husky teams have looked after playing 4 or 5 games. Special teams played well as the Huskies were able to kick the ball deep and then cover kicks making the Roadrunners start deep in their territory each time they kicked the ball. The Huskies defense was quick off the ball and hit hard as they were able to penetrate the Roadrunners offensive line and get in their backfield all night. D. Orrick and Matt Graef led all Huskies tacklers with 9 unassisted tackles each, Muller had 8 unassisted tackles while De Angeles was credited with 10 assists. The Huskies defense also got the first score of the season for the Huskies on a safety in the first quarter.
On the offensive side of the ball for the Huskies #40, D. Orrick was the leading rusher with 17 carries and 131 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had 3 pass receptions for 49 yards and another touchdown. #21 S. Orrick had 11 carries for 51 yards. Matt Graef carried 3 times for 39 yards and a score and #6 a fiesty Liuag had 9 rushes for a total of 39 yards. Huskies Quarterback Lucas Underkoffler carried 3 times for 9 total yards. Underkoffler went 7 for 11 for 119 total yards in the passing department, which is excellent for the first game. Other Huskies catching passes were #43 Mueller who caught 3 for 53 yards and #85 Cuellar caught 1 for 17 yards. Both Mueller and Cuellar also had interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.
On Friday, Sept. 13 the Huskies take on the Bishop Broncos at Gault-McClure Stadium in Mammoth. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
