Sometime in the evening of Thursday, Jan. 1, a pipe burst at Mammoth Middle School (MMS), flooding three quarters of the school with three inches of water. “We were very fortunate that we had staff working on Friday,” said MMS Principal Annie Rinaldi. MMS Maintenance Supervisor Jim Dudley, the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, and ServiceMaster then combined on the cleanup. Although Dudley initially told Rinaldi the school likely wouldn’t be ready to open again until Tuesday or even Wednesday, “By Sunday, we had the place almost totally dry, so we were able to have school on Monday,” he said. “Because of the Fire Department, ServiceMaster, and all of the custodians, we had really minimal damage,” added a thankful Rinaldi.
