Mammoth Food & Wine
Petra’s Bistro won “Best Dish” and the Los Angeles team beat the Mammoth Team in the Celebrity Chef Battle during the Mammoth Lakes Foundation’s 5th annual premier fundraising event, the Mammoth Food & Wine Experience, presented by Honda, on June 26 and 27.
Petra’s winning dish, prepared by Radisson Williams and Matt Gonya, was a pan-seared diver scallop with a split pea puree, roasted sweet corn bacon fingerling potato hash, lemon chervil buerre blanc, and a Serrano ham garnish.
Other competing chefs and restaurants included Bobby Brown of Lakefront, Rich Leonin of Red Lantern, Ian Algeroen of Skadi, Ken Murray of Chart House, Frederic Pierrel of Mammoth Rock Brasserie, and Arturo Urreola of Whitebark.
The L.A. Celebrity Chef team consisted of Chef Josiah Citrin of Melisse Restaurant and Chef Raphael Lunetta of JiRaffe Restaurant; they competed against the Mammoth Team, consisting of Chef Frederic Pierrel and Dan Molnar. Each team was given a mystery basket of main ingredients—salmon, mushrooms, and pink pepper corns—and the two teams had 25 minutes to create one spectacular dish to be judged by a panel of “experts.”
This year’s panel consisted of Kathy Copeland, of Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra; Fred Johnson, of 80/50; and Brent Truax, of Sierra Nevada Resort & Spa.
The Friday Night Wine Walk in the Village at Mammoth saw hundreds of people enjoying the music by Dead Winter Carpenters, wine poured by 14 wineries, and palate cleansers provided by Chef Dan Molnar and Marci Satterfield. The silent auction drew mobile users to bid on an eclectic collection of items ranging from art pieces by Dave McCoy and Bonnie Colgan to guided fishing trips and VIP tickets to the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival.
The two-day event supports the Mammoth Lakes Foundation’s ability to provide year-round theatre programming and scholarships to any Mono County high school graduate or resident pursing an AA degree from Cerro Coso Community College.
