As John Updike said of one of the greatest baseball players in history, Ted Williams, “Gods do not answer letters.”But gods may answer prayers for snow, as attendees at the first ever Ullr Fest discovered on Thursday, Dec. 4. Ullr Fest concluded the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce’s Spirit of Giving week. The Fest was a celebration to the Winter Queen and King, an opportunity to pray for snow, and a chance to give back to the community.

“We filled the ESTA bus with toys and food and warm clothes, so that was a big success,” said Chamber Executive Director Craig Schmidt. Schmidt said the Chamber is still tallying up the money collected from the 19 local restaurants that donated 10 percent of their proceeds on Thursday. “We’re thinking it’ll be a couple thousand dollars,” he said.
