LUNCH SUGGESTION: SIKH ADVICE
I’d been half-heartedly poking around the Bishop real estate scene earlier this year.
And confronted by the usual roadblocks – price, quality, availability.
Of course, as time passed, I started talking myself into lowering my standards and expectations.
Oh, I could live there. Oh, I could fix that. Oh, that’s a minor inconvenience.
—
In the midst of all this, I get an email from some PR firm touting an author’s latest book.
*As an aside, I get tons of solicitations like this. I feel bad for the PR firms. Almost. So much damn PR to disseminate and fewer and fewer local rags like The Sheet to pitch it to.
Anyway, the book is called “The Power of Home Numbers.” The subhead: Discover the Best Numbers to Increase Harmony and Prosperity in Your Home.
It’s by a guy named Jesse Kalsi. He’s a native of India. A Sikh. And on the cover he’s wearing a very serious expression and very nice clothes and an impeccably wrapped turban on his head.
This is my guy.
I set up a telephone interview. Figure it’s a win either way. Either I find his use of astrology and numerology in the identification of real estate ridiculous and write a humor column about it, or I’m drawn in by the hocus pocus and it helps me make a decision on a house.
Just days before the call, I had looked at a funky, rustic property in Wilkerson – 638. I thought to myself, ‘maybe?’
Until I spoke with Jesse.
“Don’t touch 638,” he said. “It’s got Jupiter in the middle … and never buy 8s.”
He said this with such certainty that it got my attention.

Kalsi was born and raised in India and immigrated here in the late ‘80s.
He lives in the East Bay and has been a real estate broker since 1995.
He had no background in numbers & numerology, any of this stuff. But what he found in his life is that certain numbers kept coming up for him. And the more he studied it, the more he took stock in it.
As he explains, “We have to be in our own frequency and in our own best numbers.”
“I come from a family of devout Sikhs,” he writes in the book. “None of them understands or even listens to me talk about numbers, numerology, or other related topics … but I was pleasantly surprised when I visited India several years ago, because for the first time, my father wanted to sit down and discuss his bank account numbers … after the first printing of this book, he even asked me for copies to send to his friends and business associates.”

As Kalsi explains, the planets and the sun and moon correspond to numbers.
Sun = 1
Moon = 2
Jupiter = 3
Uranus = 4
Mercury = 5
Venus = 6
Neptune = 7
Saturn = 8
Mars = 9
He said “Saturn energy is as tricky as it is powerful.” But “If that energy doesn’t work with you, it’ll slow you down.”
He described Saturn as slow-moving. Deliberate. Cold. Intentional.
Based upon my birthdate, he said I should avoid 4s and 8s. “5s and 6s are best for you,” he proclaimed.
I asked him about some of my past addresses.
420 = too intense
1046 = 46 apparently is not a good combo for personal relationships.
Stick with 1, 3, 5, 6 … something right will come to you, he said. “The right energy just jumps in your lap.”
As Kalsi told me, “You can’t force real estate. You can’t push just for a commission.”
And a warning: Most “great deals” out there are for properties that are suffering.
One tip that I found fascinating – sometimes he’d suggest adding a number to an address to change the energy.

Ultimately, I found the right number. 2517. Which equals a 2+5+1+7 = 15 = 1+5 = 6
All I can tell you is that it feels right.
As for Jesse (Jesse was settled on as a nickname because Jasbir is too difficult for us westerners), he’s a busy guy. A lot of his work these days is for consultations – he’s like a numbers therapist. And apparently very popular amongst the Bollywood set.
The actress Padmini Kolhapure is one of his champions.
And once a year, Kalsi returns to spiritual spots in his native country, particularly the Neeb Karori Baba temple in northern India.
Jesse Kalsi has been married thirty years. He was two children, ages 25 & 17.
