THE MARSHALLS PLAN
Dan Khatchaturian, who manages the Bishop Plaza on the north end of town, said this week that he’s inked a new tenant – and it’s not a tattoo parlor!
Marshalls, a clothing and home decor retailer (part of the multinational TJX Companies universe which includes T-J-Maxx/Marshalls/HomeGoods/ Sierra/Homesense), is coming to Bishop. It plans extensive renovations of the near 30,000-square foot former Rite-Aid location, and will open in 12-14 months according to Khatchaturian, the Plaza’s manager (who also happens to own and lease out several of the smaller retail spaces within the Plaza from the FedUp Store to Smoke 4 Less.
As Khatchaturian explained, Marshalls has been looking at an Eastern Sierra location for awhile, and likes the location, proximity to Mammoth, its future co-tenants and the on-site Tesla charging station. It sees huge demand for local clothing and housewares and believes the area will support the business.
“It’s challenging to attract large multinational companies to fill big boxes in small towns,” acknowledged Khatchaturian.
While I was on the line, Khatchaturian was sure to also talk up other tenants within the Plaza, noting that Looney Bean Bishop will soon be opening a second location (March 1) next to Pals Collective.
