G & C, THEY BRING GOOD THINGS TO LIFE
Published in the May 23, 2026 issue.
Some folks just have a knack for filling a niche.
That would describe Cathleen Calderon and Greg Leon, partners in business and life. You could call them serial entrepreneurs.
Cathleen founded and still produces Villagefest (which takes place every summer the last weekend in July). She owns Doorstep Deliveries, Mammoth’s version of DoorDash. Both Cathleen and Greg also produce Mammoth JazzFest (which takes place this year July 10-11) and Greg owns Still Standing Construction.
Lately, however, the pair have undertaken a fifth venture – Appliances of Mammoth, of which the showroom is located in the Minaret Mall just down from Booky Joint and Noodle-ly.
It started as more of an emergency service. During Covid, when Greg was doing a construction job, he’d keep the older but still functional leftover appliances and then rent them out during an emergency.
It was perfect for a vacation rental situation where you could lose the whole booking over a fridge on the fritz.
Post-Covid, Greg and Cathleen “got distracted” with their Dessert’d bakery, but once they closed that a few years ago, they circled back to the appliance idea. After all, they had two years left on the commercial lease – better to do something with it.
Greg reached out to a distributor he knew in Reno, and the distributor fronted some appliances to start.
For a time at the outset, the pair would simply buy appliances at Home Depot to resell.
Until the corporate bean counters figured out what was happening.
“We were ordering so much from Home Depot that they caught on that there’s a market here,” sighed Greg.
They are now members of a co-op buying group.
“We can get close, but we can‘t match dollar-for-dollar. What we can do is guarantee installation and provide great customer service – from the smallest studio to the largest single-family home.”
Their main competitors are Trends InsideOut (High Country Lumber) and the aforementioned Home Depot.
GE is Appliances of Mammoth’s flagship brand. Other brands in stock include LG, Samsung and Frigidaire. They are also Bosch certified and a preferred contractor for Wolf Subzero.
They are hosting a Memorial Day weekend sale which includes a Dodger ticket giveaway (no purchase necessary). They also offer six-month no interest financing and an extended warranty program.
