Trips back in time don’t get any better than the looks back at Mono Basin’s yesteryears. This Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31, you can explore unique periods in Eastern Sierra history as part of the 7th Annual Ghosts of the Sagebrush Tour, a fundraiser for the Mono Basin Historical Society. Ghosts of the Sagebrush’s topic this year is “1940 In The Mono Basin: A Year On The Edge Of Change.”

The event kicks of Friday with dinner at the Lee Vining Community Center at 6 p.m., followed by live swing-era music and dancing courtesy of the Bishop Big Band at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the Tour program begins at 10 a.m. at the Old Schoolhouse Museum, next to Hess Park in Lee Vining, with old-timers’ recollections of 1940 in Lee Vining. After a picnic lunch, the Tour moves to Grant Dam and the West Portal Construction Camp site to explore the construction history of water diversions by Los Angeles with guest speakers and historic photo displays.

Tickets for the fundraiser dinner/dance are $20 for adults and $15 for children (6 to 12); tickets for the Tour are $20. All tickets are available at the events or at the Old Schoolhouse Museum. Info/questions: call 760.647.6461 or e-mail curator@monobasinhs.org.
