Home game Saturday is first 11-man game since 2008

After a year’s hiatus, Mammoth High School Football is back in action Saturday at Gault-McClure field against L.A. Baptist at 1 p.m.

The J.Vs will play at 10 a.m.

The game marks the return of 11-man football, as well as the return of Coach Tom Gault.

Gault has an 18-man roster which has gained a true appreciation for what can go away.

“And I don’t think they’re quite 100% sure they’ll get to play Saturday,” said the Coach. But they will.

Sheet: What’s the team’s strength this year?

Gault: Great group of kids … and we’ve got a little bit of speed.

We watched as the offense reeled off a well-executed running play.

Gault: Nice counter, but it’s not gonna work against this team.

Sheet: Why?

Gault: They blitz too much.

Sheet: How do you know that?

Gault: When you get to be my age, you see and hear everything.

Starting QB Tyler Wormhoudt will be joined in the backfield by a trio of running backs, including Senior Jorge Galvan and Juniors Oscar Hernandez and Brennen Peters.

Sheet: Who’s the next Kenden Blake on the line?

Gault: His brother, Bryson.

Offensive Coordinator Marty Thompson will be calling the plays. Head Coach Gault will also serve as Defensive Coordinator.

Sheet: So, if we can’t stop anyone, it’s your fault?

Gault (smiling): Yes.
